The essentials

What is menopause and women's hormone care?

Menopause and women's hormone care is physician-directed evaluation and treatment for perimenopause and menopause. It combines detailed symptom mapping, comprehensive lab testing, and health-history review to build an individualized plan: lifestyle changes, non-hormonal therapies, and hormone therapy (estrogen, progesterone, and testosterone where indicated), with ongoing monitoring for safety and results.

Hot flashes, broken sleep, brain fog, and weight that suddenly will not budge are not things you simply have to live with.

At The Body Bar MD in Ellicott City, our wellness clinic is medically supervised, and hormone care here is built on real evaluation: comprehensive labs, an honest conversation, and a plan designed for you, not your birth year.

Is it for you?

Who is a good candidate for menopause hormone care?

Hot flashes, broken sleep, brain fog, and weight that suddenly will not budge are not things you simply have to live with.

Tap the one that sounds like you.

Hot flashes wrecking your sleep and your days

Real, physiologic, and treatable

Hot flashes or night sweats are wrecking your sleep and hijacking your days. These symptoms are real and physiologic, and you will never hear that it's all in your head.

Foggy, irritable, or not quite yourself

Weight, mood, and labs that don't add up

You feel foggy, irritable, or anxious in a way that doesn't feel like you, weight is gathering around your middle despite the same diet and exercise that used to work, or you've been told your labs are normal and it's just aging. A thorough evaluation looks at the whole picture, not one number.

Can't take hormones, or would rather not

Non-hormonal options too

Hormones are one tool, not the only one. Non-hormonal prescription medications, targeted lifestyle changes, and supportive therapies can meaningfully reduce hot flashes, improve sleep, and steady mood.

When to talk to us first

Personal or family history that changes the plan

Safety is individual. We screen your personal and family history, including breast cancer, blood clots, and cardiovascular disease, before recommending anything, and monitor you throughout treatment.

The honest answer requires a conversation. Every plan at The Body Bar MD begins with a medical assessment, and if hormone therapy isn't the right tool for your goal, we'll tell you what is. Browse every concern we treat.

Often considered alongside hormone therapy: medical weight loss and TRT for men.

Full step-by-step details

Consultation & symptom mapping

We start with an unhurried conversation about your symptoms, their timeline, your health history, and what matters most to you. Nothing you describe is dismissed as just part of getting older.

Comprehensive lab work

We order a thorough panel (hormones, thyroid, and metabolic and cardiovascular markers) tailored to your symptoms and history. Labs inform the plan; they never replace listening.

Your individualized plan

We map your results against your symptoms and build a plan together: lifestyle foundations, non-hormonal options, and hormone therapy where it is appropriate (estrogen, progesterone, and testosterone where indicated).

Starting treatment

You begin with clear instructions on dosing, what to expect, and when relief typically arrives. We stay available for questions between visits.

Follow-up & ongoing monitoring

We recheck your symptoms and labs, adjust doses until you feel like yourself again, and keep screening for bone, breast, and heart health on the calendar.

Why patients choose it

The benefits, honestly stated

Symptoms taken seriously

Hot flashes, night sweats, brain fog, mood shifts, and joint aches are real, physiologic, and treatable. You will never hear that it is all in your head.

Medical evaluation

Your care is directed by a board-certified physician: symptom mapping, comprehensive labs, and a full health-history review before anything is prescribed.

Evidence-based hormone therapy

For most healthy women within 10 years of menopause onset, the benefits of hormone therapy for symptom relief outweigh the risks, consistent with current guidance from The Menopause Society, which we follow.

Non-hormonal options too

Hormones are one tool, not the only one. Lifestyle strategies and non-hormonal therapies are built into every plan, and can stand alone when hormones are not right for you.

Whole-body health protection

Menopause affects bone density, cardiovascular risk, weight, skin, and hair. Your plan looks past hot flashes to protect your long-term health.

Ongoing monitoring & adjustment

Hormone care is never prescribe-and-forget. We track your symptoms and labs over time, fine-tune your doses, and keep age-appropriate screening current.

Questions, answered

Menopause hormone therapy FAQs

How much does menopause hormone therapy cost in Ellicott City?

The women's hormone program includes your medical plan, quarterly labs, and ongoing visits. Prescriptions are filled separately and can often be run through your insurance or your regular pharmacy. Before the program starts there is a short consultation and a physician evaluation with a baseline hormone panel. Hormone pellet therapy is priced separately, typically needed three to four times a year, with labs included in the program. Everything is month to month with no contract, and your full plan and total are confirmed in writing before anything begins. The program is paid out of pocket. Prescriptions are the part your insurance can often help with. Request a consultation for your exact total.

Is hormone replacement therapy safe?

For most healthy women within 10 years of menopause onset, current guidance from The Menopause Society finds that the benefits of hormone therapy for symptom relief outweigh the risks. Safety is individual, which is why we screen your personal and family history (including breast cancer, blood clots, and cardiovascular disease) before recommending anything, and monitor you throughout treatment.

Did the FDA change its safety warning on hormone therapy?

Yes. In November 2025 the FDA announced it is removing boxed-warning language about cardiovascular disease, breast cancer, and dementia risk from menopausal hormone therapy labels, and updated labeling has already been approved for several products. The agency says the original warning was applied in the early 2000s following a study whose participants were, on average, over a decade past typical menopause age and used a hormone formulation that isn't commonly prescribed today. The boxed warning for endometrial cancer stays in place for estrogen-alone products. We still review your personal and family health history before recommending anything and monitor you throughout treatment, whatever the label says.

How do I know if I'm in perimenopause?

Perimenopause can begin years before your final period, often in your early-to-mid 40s, while cycles are still fairly regular. Hallmarks include new hot flashes, night sweats, sleep disruption, mood shifts, brain fog, and cycle changes. Because hormone levels fluctuate day to day during this transition, we diagnose from your symptom pattern and history, supported by labs, not from a single blood test.

What's usually the first noticeable sign of perimenopause?

Often it's a change in the menstrual cycle: periods becoming irregular, sometimes before hot flashes or other symptoms show up, according to Cleveland Clinic. Cycle changes can have other causes too, so we look at your full symptom pattern, timeline, and history rather than cycle changes alone, and confirm with labs when needed. If your periods have changed and you're not sure why, that alone is worth bringing up at a consultation.

How soon will I feel better after starting treatment?

Many women notice improvement in hot flashes and sleep within the first few weeks of hormone therapy, with the full benefit typically developing over about three months. We schedule follow-up within that window to review your response and adjust dosing if needed.

What if I can't take hormones, or don't want to?

You still have real options. Non-hormonal prescription medications, targeted lifestyle changes, and supportive therapies can meaningfully reduce hot flashes, improve sleep, and steady mood. Your plan is built around what is safe for you and what you are comfortable with.

Do you test hormone levels before treating?

Yes, your evaluation includes comprehensive lab work covering hormones, thyroid, and the metabolic markers relevant to your symptoms. But we treat you, not a lab value: in perimenopause especially, levels swing widely, so results are always interpreted alongside your symptom picture.

Do you prescribe testosterone for women?

Where it is indicated, most commonly for bothersome low libido that persists after other causes are addressed, testosterone can be part of a woman's plan. Dosing is conservative, evidence-informed, and monitored with follow-up labs.

Do you offer bioidentical hormone therapy?

Yes, bioidentical hormones, meaning estrogen, progesterone, and testosterone with the same chemical structure as what your body naturally produces, can be part of an individualized plan. According to The Menopause Society, many FDA-approved bioidentical options are available through regular pharmacies, while custom-compounded versions aren't tested for consistent dosing and aren't proven to be safer or more effective. Your plan is built from your labs and symptoms, not a fixed formula, and we'll walk you through the tradeoffs of any compounded option you're considering.

How does hormone pellet therapy work?

A small hormone pellet is placed just under the skin in a brief in-office visit, where it releases a steady dose over time instead of the daily peaks and dips of a pill or cream. Women typically need three to four insertions a year, and labs are included in the program so your dose can be adjusted as your levels change. We'll confirm at your evaluation whether pellets, or another delivery method, fit your labs, symptoms, and preferences.
